Memory Lane: What's Your Quintessential Summer Dish?

One of my friends said yesterday that she hadn't had a single fresh garden tomato yet this summer, and I was stunned. I was stunned, though, because I had the same problem. I couldn't believe it. Growing up, the start of summer was officially kicked off by my mother and I slicing open the first tomato from the garden and eating a slice — then cutting another slice to add to a peanut butter sandwich. Luckily, I still have a bit more time to partake! What are your must-eat foods of summertime?

Everyone has favorite summer memories when it comes to food. There are thoughts of cold watermelon on hot days and corn dogs at the county fair. My aunt is famous for her layered dip that appears at every summer family get together.

Do you have a favorite dish? If there was one thing you had to eat before the season fades away what would it be?

Share your thoughts in the comments below and tell us what makes these foods so special to you. As we grow older in life, we often find that the story is even more beautiful than the food in question!
