My Valentine's Day Tradition: A Brand-New Meal

My Valentine's Day Tradition: A Brand-New Meal

For most people, Valentine's Day is when you call up all the best restaurants in town and scramble for a reservation — any reservation. In our house, the exact opposite is the case, as you'll find us with knives and skillet in hand, and preparing our own feast! My husband and I have our very own Valentine's tradition: We brave the unknown and test out an all-new recipe!

Valentine's Day for many is this night you try to get perfect — like you have the ability to cram a year's worth of love and sentiment into one evening. Instead of supporting the restaurant business on this traditional holiday for such things, my husband and I come home, turn off our cell phones, turn off the TV, find a record and cook.

We find a recipe we've never made before, which we're prepared for in advance so there's no last-minute trip to the store. We don't rush, we just plan on cooking the whole evening — and it always turns out great. Well, that's a slight fib, as some of the recipes we've chosen haven't exactly been winners, but the process itself was still fun.

It's the perfect way to spend the evening instead of flipping a coin to see who has to cook that night or trying to cram a meal in between all our other activities. A night just for food, it sounds gluttonous, but when you spend the evening nibbling (are we still talking about the food?) you don't really spend the whole evening chowing down!

Do you have a recipe that we simply must try for Valentine's this year? Leave us a link in the comments below!
