I remember the first time I noticed my mom sprinkling salt over her watermelon before eating. I was flabbergasted! What in the world was she doing to ruin the perfect summer fruit? Winne Young over at Gilt Taste put together a primer on seasoning fruit this week. It's the perfect time to think about this because it gives an excuse to serve fruit just as it is, with a touch of seasoning. What better way to showcase the season?

Young presents several recipes, including one that I'm dying to try: strawberries with matcha salt. This salt and green tea combination adds a slightly bitter and salty flavor to fresh ripe strawberries.
