Urban Composting in Austin: Put Food Waste to Good Use

Those of you living in Austin, Texas, have one more reason to love your city. Green Bucket Composting is a local service that will pick up your compost and put it to good use on a nearby family farm.

What a perfect and convivial solution for us yard-less and garden-less apartment dwellers, don't you think?

Composting is just not practical for most apartment dwellers. Even if we had the ability to compost, what would we do with it? But watching the garbage pile up with compost-worthy food scraps just breaks my heart.

Green Bucket Composting seems like the answer to our prayers. They start you off with a compost bucket, which is lined with charcoal filters to reduce odor. Once a week, Green Bucket will drop by to pick up your filled bucket and leave you with an empty one in its place.

Your food scraps are then composted along with everyone else's and used to fertilize the gardens at the company's family farm. As Green Bucket grows, they will begin offering compost and compost tea to their customers, perfect for small container gardens and house plants.

Take a look at Green Bucket's website for more on their services and pricing structure:
